There are plenty of innovative opportunities for companies looking to gain funding for projects.

Appbackr provides a twist on the typical crowdsourcing approach to funding, however, It's focused on specific apps, often those that are already in production, with the cash used for marketing or post-launch promotion.

Investors, or backrs as it calls them, 'buy' a certain number of apps pre-launch, gaining their return when those apps are sold on whichever store or marketplace the developers is distributing on.

But it's not just start ups who are using the mechanism.

Appbackr has just announced a deal with Paramount, which is using the platform to gain funding for three licensed apps - Naked Gun, The Untouchables and Old School.

Naked Gun is the first to be made available for backing, with investors offered a 35 percent return on a minimum investment of $11. The company is looking to raise a maximum of $60,000 with a reserve of $1,000.

The game is set to launch during February 2012 on iOS.

"What's exciting is that appbackr is at the nexus of great content, great developers and passionate fans," commented its CEO Trevor Cornwell on the company's blog.

"We hope that we can make backing and promoting these apps into an exciting way to socially publish apps."

Disclosure: The author got all-excited and now has an entire $36 invested in Naked Gun's success.
