Mondia Media partners with CiiNow to deliver PC/console Play Central streaming service to mobile
Hamburg-based mobile entertainment company Mondia Media has partnered with US outfit CiiNow to deliver a new games streaming service – Play Central.

Based on CiiNow's cloud-based virtualisation engine, Play Central enables PC and console games to be streamed to web connected devices including smartphones, tablets and TVs.

In this respect, it's similar to OnLive and Gaikai, but with a stronger focus on mobile devices.

Islands in the stream

The service - now available to all Mondia's B2B customers, is aimed at what Mondia describes as Casual Hardcore Gamers.

"With Play Central, we are offering all partners a console-like games experience, enabling a totally new customer group," explains Mondia's VP, marketing and innovation, Michael Krause.

"So even customers who are not willing to invest into a console ... can now play with the full experience anytime on any broadband connected device."

Payment methods include credit card, PayPal, and integrated operator billing.

Supported games include the likes of F.E.A.R. 3 and LEGO Harry Potter from Warner Bro., Capcom's Super Street fighter IV Arcade Edition, Atari's Test Drive Unlimited 2, plus games from 1C and Frozenbyte, with more being added.

Busy hires

This news follows the recent announcement of two appointments at Mondia, as Volker Glaeser joined as COO, and Avril McDonald was named as the firm's new UK MD.

Mondia Media is running its Entertainment Universe, a four screen white label entertainment experience, for operators such as Vodafone and hardware manufacturers like Sony Ericsson.

You'll be able to see CiiNow's technology in action at Mobile World Congress in Hall 6, Booth 6C23.
