Looking to make a move on female gamers

German PC specialist InnoGames to master free-to-play market with move on mobile
German PC games publisher InnoGames has revealed it's looking to produce mobile versions of its existing titles in an attempt to get a better handle on the free-to-play market.

The firm's existing PC portal, which boasts 75 million registered users, is currently aimed at 'hardcore' gamers, with 80 percent of its userbase male.

Now, the company is looking to expand its audience, with InnoGames claiming cross-platform mobile versions of its titles can attract more "women and casual players."

The rules of attraction

According to head of PR Dennis Heinert, InnoGames' goal isn't just to "get into the mobile market", but rather use the associated digital platforms to expand both the reach, functionality and content of its existing IP.

Mobile integration, he claimed, can enrich the user's experience of the studio's games.

"When you have a strategy game where you could be attacked at any time, it's a huge advantage for you if you're in the subway and you get a push notification telling you you've been attacked."

But InnoGames also hopes that a presence on both Android and iOS can help it appeal to the kind of players the studio might otherwise struggle to attract.

Future focus

"Casual gamers are tending to use mobile games compared to browser games, and if we want to attract those players to our games like Forge of Empires, it's very important to have a mobile version," concluded Heinert.

InnoGames released its first iOS app, Tribal War, back in December.

The aforementioned Forge of Empires - billed as an attempt at a "mid-core" title – will be its first cross-platform release, however, and a debut attempt to reach mobile's broad segment of consumers.
