Longtime licensee of the Deer Hunter brand on mobile, Glu Mobile has now bought the IP outright from Atari.

As well as the trademark and associated domain names, it says it also gains an exclusive, irrevocable worldwide licence on the other intellectual property associated with the Deer Hunter brand.

The price of the deal wasn't disclosed.

Hunting for growth

Over the past seven years, Glu has generated more than $21 million in revenue from its Deer Hunter games; with a new release Deer Hunter Reloaded going in April for iOS and Android.

"The Deer Hunter brand has become iconic for hunting gamers since its inception in 1997. It is a strong fit with Glu's leadership in 3D, high production value, freemium mobile gaming," said Niccolo de Masi, Glu's president and CEO.

"We expect this deal to have a long-term favourable impact on gross margins, and anticipate finishing the year debt-free with double digit millions of cash."

De Masi also said he expected Glu to extend the licence to platforms such as the Mac App Store, Google Chrome and smart TVs
