TIGA announces £100,000 game prototype funding contest winners

Four UK devs walk away with £25,000 each

TIGA announces £100,000 game prototype funding contest winners
The winners have been announced for TIGA's £100,000 Games Contest, with four developers walking away with £25,000 each to help support the development of their game prototypes.

The competition invited UK developers to compete for four prizes across three categories: games on-the-move, games in-the-home, and social web gaming.
Fangs Out!, a multiplayer mobile game from Guerilla Tea, won the prize in the games on-the-move category, while Clockwork Racers earned Opposable Games £25,000 in the games in-the-home category.
Burrow by Remode and Squaddies by PLA Studios also each won £25,000 in the social web gaming category.

Pay-out

The £25,000 prizes, provided by the University of Abertay, are not intended to fund the development of a final product, however. Instead, the money is to be used to build prototypes which can attract further funding.

As such, the four winning studios will also receive support and mentoring from Antix Labs and Turbulenz, as well as free membership to UK trade association TIGA.

"TIGA is focused on enabling small and start-up studios to achieve their potential," said TIGA CEO Dr. Richard Wilson of the organisation's role in the contest.

"The TIGA Games Contest is an innovative way of helping us to achieve this objective."

Wilson, who has also been encouraging UK developers to speak up regarding implementation of tax relief for the industry, added, "We are helping to make a real difference to some exciting new development studios."
