Autodesk helps indies animate faster and cheaper with 3ds Max-integrated animation store
In keeping with the explosion of indie developers, Autodesk is optimising its art and animations tools for smaller, leaner outfits.

One such move is the release of the Autodesk Animation Store.

Powered by online character animation service Mixamo, this is a store inbuilt within 3ds Max that enables you to access what Autodesk calls simplified 3D animation resources.

Hop, skip, jump

Supplied by companies such as aXYZ design, Original Force, Radiance and China West Coast, the store currently contains hundreds of characters and more than a thousand editable animation for 3ds Max Biped and CAT characters.

Easing the production flow, motion clips are automatically applied to the character control rigs, and can be customised in real-time and previewed for free in your 3ds Max scene prior to purchase.

"At Autodesk, we are removing technical barriers to creativity by providing more iterative streamlined workflows, and offering powerful creative tools like the Autodesk Animation Store," said Ken Pimentel, director of product management for media design.

"The animation store is a great resource for users who don't have the time or expertise to create quality 3D animation from scratch.

"Now, broadcasters can quickly assemble an animated clip in response to today's news, and casual game companies can reduce production time by licensing motions targeted to their game and characters."
