Roman Backgammon and Zombie Ace are the top-reviewed iPad games for May
If you were wondering what the best-reviewed iPad games on the web last month were, here's the iPad Quality Index round-up for May to fill you in.

The iPad Quality Index boasts over 40,000 reviews from websites like 148Apps, Pocket Gamer, and iPlayApps, and uses a unique metric to create a single definitive score for each iPad title.

Humbling experience

May's iPad Qi Top 10 line-up is a testament to the versatility of Apple's touchscreen tablet.

For starters, the humble boardgame is holding its own against more graphically intensive fare, with chart-topper Roman Backgammon providing a subtle update to the evergreen tabletop game.

On a slightly more 21st-century note, though, undead endless-flyer Zombie Ace has flown straight into iPad critics' hearts, climbing to the dizzy heights of the #2 spot.

Meanwhile, proving that strategy games can deliver the goods on touchscreen devices, feudal RTS title Autumn Dynasty has secured an excellent Qi rating through its clever integration of gesture controls and familiar troop-marshalling gameplay.

N.B. While we only display the average score to one decimal place, the list is generated to further significant figures. We just don't show them all.

And, naturally, this is a static graph based on live listings which are subject to constant change as new releases and reviews emerge.

In order to provide a regular marker of the critical zeitgeist, however, we will continue to round up the best of the iPad games released each month to provide the definitive Quality Index top ten.
