Yodo1 unveils Kryptanium, its OpenFeint-style social gaming platform for western studios
Beijing-based market entry specialist Yodo1 has unveiled Kryptanium – a mobile platform that will enable western developers to build social features into their games for free.

Gamasutra reports that Yodo1 is already beta testing Kryptanium with one million Chinese players, and the platform lets users exchange statuses, screenshots, likes and even virtual currency through an in-game overlay.

Developers, meanwhile, will be able to use Kryptanium to reward players with currency or in-game items, and cross-promote their titles through other Kryptanium games.

Freemium model

Yodo1 has announced that it will begin a closed beta for Kryptanium in the US on 30 June, open exclusively to developers that have made use of Yodo1's market-entry services in the past.

After that, however, Yodo1 plans to make the platform SDK available to developers free-of-charge on a self-serve basis – potentially with additional premium services on offer for those that need them.

Yodo1 believes that Kryptanium will be especially useful to independent developers, and plans to optimise the service over time to suit their needs.
