The Netherlands-based social gaming and charity start-up Gramble World has closed $2 million in seed funding, bringing its total seed run up to $5 million.
The key investor was European charity lottery operator Novamedia, while Singapore-based boutique investment group Angaros and six unnamed business angels were also involved.
This amount of funding can accomplish a lot of good in the right hands, and Gramble says it plans to use the capital to build out its technology and to focus on sales, marketing, and user/developer retention.
Gramble launched its open beta in April of this year as a 'cause-driven mobile social network' which funds charities every time that a player buys an in-app purchase or interacts with an ad.
In short, it's a way to take the 'evil' stigma off of the free-to-play business model.
Spend a little, give a little
Since its launch, Gramble has acquired more than 22 million unique users which isn't too shabby considering that its hybrid native-web Android app just arrived in July and its iOS app is due out next month.
Many of the Gramble's reported 4 million active users are engaged with more than just games, however.
Similar to GREE, LINE and KakaoTalk, Gramble offers a messaging component and community interaction on top of its offered suite of games.
In a bid to establish itself as a more global player, Gramble is also planning to open an office in San Francisco this September.
