Wargaming makes mobile move with new Seattle studio

World of Tanksdeveloper Wargaming is to fund a new mobile studio in Seattle, headed up by the co-founder of mobile developer Z2, David Bluhm.

That's according to VentureBeat, which claims the 'stealth studio' is yet to be named, but – with funds coming directly from Wargaming - will be afforded its own charter to follow the best path to success in the mobile field.

A matter of money

"We think mobile games is still a relatively new space with massive upside," Bluhmsaid of the move. "Mobile is ripe for innovative and new core game mechanics."

Other major names have also been brought on board, including former PopCap man Joe McDonagh – who will oversea game production – and Z2 and Nintendo veteran Julian Chunovic, who will take charge of post production.

Wargaming's backing, it's claimed, will extend no further than investment, which will enable the new studio to compete when it comes to marketing and distribution, with more details set to be revealed in the coming weeks.
