Helping hand: UKIE to host series of events to aid UK devs

British trade association UKIE has unveiled a series of events designed to aid UK developers handle key areas of their business, as well as improve the chances of their games being a success.

The 'how to' advice is set to be stretched across three different events between November and February.

First up will be advice on how to get discovered on 29 November, followed by how to choose your platform on 23 January and how to get ahead in overseas markets on 20 February.

Clinical assistance

In addition to said events, UKIE is also set to run a series of drop in clincs, free of charge and exclusive to UKIE members who want to use hotdesking facilities.

The clinics will enable developers to speak informally with industry experts about areas of practical business concerns.

The first three clinics - which take place at UKIE's offices in London - will be helping members get to grips with subjects such as legal, currency and financial, PR and accountancy, and tax advice and intellectual property rights.

UKIE members can email their questions to clinic [at] ukie.org.uk, call the clinic hotline on 02075 340580, or drop in and meet the experts face to face at the UKIE London HQ.

Expert Access

"We know that getting access to expert advice is crucial to games businesses, especially smaller ones. Our new 'How to' events will assemble some of the best names in their fields to give advice in areas that are important for most games businesses," explained UKIE CEO Jo Twist.

"Our drop in clinics are designed to give one to one access with experts. These are really informal, and the idea is that the experts will be hot-desking at UKIE's London HQ, and members can too while they chat.

"There is no need to register – that is why they are called drop in clinics. These clinics and 'How to' events are the first in a whole new suite of services that we will be providing in the following months at Ukie and out of London."

What do you call someone who has an unhealthy obsession with video games and Sean Bean? That'd be a 'Chris Kerr'. Chris is one of those deluded souls who actually believes that one day Sean Bean will survive a movie. Poor guy.
