You might think the Helsinki start-up scene is over-saturated. But still the money pours in.
The latest mobile game developer to hook into investors' largesse is PlayRaven.
It's just closed a $2.3 million seed round, with VCs including London Venture Partners and Jari Ovaskainen (both early investors in Supercell), Spotify investor Creandum and some private investors.
Founded in 2013 by five industry veterans from Remedy, Wooga and Digital Chocolate, PlayRaven's plan is to reinvent the mobile strategy genre.
Its first title Spymaster will be released globally in spring 2014, with the developer's second game going into production soon after.
New thinking
"This seed funding enables us to expand our team and build a portfolio of unique high-quality strategy games aimed at new mobile audiences worldwide," commented PlayRaven CEO Lasse Seppänen.
"With thousands of new games published each day, the PlayRaven team is focused on innovation and breakthrough concepts, which will delight people in new ways," added LVPs David Gardner.
"I don't think the same game formulas of the past will work and that's why we've invested in this team with new ideas and high standards."
