Twitch unveils game streaming for iOS and Android

Video streaming specialist Twitch has announced it is to build on the 10 million installs of its mobile apps across iOS and Android with the launch of a mobile-focused SDK for developers.

This will enable mobile games to add live streaming and screen capture to their set up, bringing Twitch's full suite of services to smartphones for the first time.

"Our vision is to provide the Twitch community with the ability not only to view, but to broadcast live video game content wherever they are, whether they’re on the go or in the living room," detailed VP of marketing Matthew DiPietro.

"We've achieved that with our PC and console integrations, so the trifecta will soon be complete with our deep and concerted foray into mobile broadcasting."

Data released by Twitch back in February revealed the platform already boasts 1 million monthly active broadcasters, with 13 billion minutes of broadcasting watched by users collectively every month.

As well as capturing and broadcasting gameplay, the new mobile SDK will also allow users to video capture from their phone's front facing camera, audio capture from an internal or external microphone and chat with other users.

Twitch's move comes hot on the heels of the likes of Everyplay and Kamcord, which allow users to capture their gameplay for sharing on social networks. Both platforms have also been accredited with aiding game discovery.
