Israeli backend services outfit Applicasa is shutting down

2014 is the year of consolidation for mobile game services, as exemplified by deals such as Kontagent and PlayHaven merging to become Upsight.

And the downside of that situation is that other less powerful players are falling by the wayside.

One such is Israeli monetisation, analytics and backend services outfit Applicasa, which has announced it's shutting down its servers on 31 July.

Hard graft

Although never one of the key players in the market, it launched in 2012, raising $1 million in two seed rounds.

We last met up with the company in 2013, when it was part of the Yetizen incubator program in San Francisco.

In an email statement, the company noted:

"Unfortunately, sometimes your best is not enough. At one point we were very close to being acquired and at another close to raising a second round of investment, however, at the end neither worked out and we ran out of financial resources."

It also pointed to strong competition.

"We launched our service on February 2012 and 6 months later there were already 26 other services offering the same backend solution for app developers."

Onwards!

As for the future, it's not clear what the company members will get up to, although given the current activity in the Israeli mobile start-up community, there should be plenty of opportunities.

And it's not all bad news.

"We are very happy for the journey we had and proud of the platform we have created. We've met some amazing people along the way, learned a lot and made friendships," the statement ends.

"We are happy to share what we've learned and help others if we can."
