Epic's new grants give Unreal 4 devs up to $50,000

Epic Games has launched a brand new initiative that will shower developers in no-strings-attached funding straight from the company.

Called Unreal Dev Grants, a total $5 million cash pot is available to divvy out between developers in investments ranging from $5,000 to $50,000.

The idea is that Unreal Engine 4 developers will benefit from the free money, getting their projects to market quicker and thus enriching the Unreal developer community.

It's real, we promise

It’s a unique proposition, considering that most sources of funding within the games industry require developers to scratch a lot of other backs too. Unreal Dev Grants differs in that all a project needs to qualify is a working prototype of a game using Unreal Engine 4.

To be considered, projects can be nominated by anyone by submitting a video and text description to unrealdevgrants@epicgames.com.

All submissions of all sizes, scope and platforms will then be reviewed by a group of judges at Epic Games that will decide how much and who to give the money to.

“We succeed when you succeed,” explains the Epic Games official site.

“Unreal Dev Grants can give you the boost you need to take your project beyond working prototype. Epic wants to help you focus more on creation and worry less about keeping the lights on.”
