Pure-play mobile game streaming service Mobcrush raises $4.9 million

Mobile game live streaming platform Mobcrush has announced it's raised $4.9 million in seed funding.

The Los Angeles outfit has gained support from a large number of investors including some high profile industry executives.

These include:

  • Kabam CEO Kevin Chou
  • former Kabam COO Chris Carvalho
  • Supercell early investor Jari Ovaskainen
  • Accel Venture Advisor Richard Wolpert, and
  • Burstly/Testflight founder Evan Rifkin

Venture capital companies that have tossed dollar bills into the pot include:

  • Raine Ventures
  • First Round Capital
  • CrunchFund
  • Rincon
  • Crosscut
  • Lionsgate, and
  • Advancit Capital

Getting ready for launch

Mobcrush is currently in private beta for iOS and Android, and says it's finding traction with power players from games such as Clash of Clans, Vainglory, Modern Combat and Minecraft.

According to industry data, Clash of Clans is the most popular mobile game on Twitch in terms of minutes watched, although it only ranks at #43.

League of Legends is by the most watched game on Twitch, with 26 percent of total audience share.
