Apple reboots iPod touch range with new colours and A8 chip

In a surprise move, Apple has rebooted its iPod touch range.

Effectively, providing an iPhone 6 without phone functionality and with a smaller 4-inch screen, the device features the A8 chip, with Apple claiming 10x graphics performance, the M8 motion coprocessor for fitness tracking, and a new 8 megapixel camera.

Running iOS 8, the device will provide the cheapest way for mobile gamers to get their hands on games that use Apple's Metal graphics technology.

Now available in 155 countries, the move is linked to Apple's launch of Apple Music, encouraging users to mix their iTunes library with the Beats 1 streaming service.

Pricing starts at $199 for the 16GB model rising to $399 for the 128GB model, with available colours including space grey, silver, gold, pink and blue.
