At Pocket Gamer Connects San Francisco 2015, James Zhang, CEO of art outsourcing company Concept Art House, gave a talk on trends in the art of mobile games.

He first looked at the trends in match-3 games, saying "cuteness will never go out of style" and pointing to the colourful worlds of Candy Crush Saga and various similar games in the Asia market.

Bigger budgets

Zhang then looked at endless runners, and pondered, "I wonder if there's room on the marketplace for a next-gen, fully 3D rendered runner game?", looking at Mirror's Edge as an example of a game that could make the transition.

Finally, Zhang touched on what this all meant for development. One of his points was to "prepare for bigger budgets" as the technology improves and users demand more from their games.
