App Annie reckons Pokemon GO could generate $1 billion a year

Another day. Another crazy Pokemon GO stat.

According to App Annie, the game - still currently only available in the US, Australia, New Zealand and Puerto Rica - has hit the #1 app store spots quicker than even Clash Royale.

On the App Store, it was the #1 top grossing app at launch, which compares to 2 days for Clash Royale.

On Google Play (which uses a less time sensitive algorithm to calculate its grossing positions), Pokemon GO took 2 days to hit the #1 spot.

That compares with 7 days for Clash Royale.

Bigger numbers

As for the long view on the game, App Annie's VP of MarCom Fabien Pierre-Nicolas, reckons it's generating "well over $1 million of net revenue" daily.

He adds: "I can easily envision a run-rate of over $1 billion per year with less server issues, a worldwide presence and more social and player vs. player features."
