360-degree VR eSports platform SLIVER.tv raises $6.2 million in seed funding

California-based SLIVER.tv has raised $6.2 million in seed funding for its 360-degree VR eSports platform.

Investment has come from a number of sources, including Japanese mobile companies GREE and Colopl and venture capitalists such as DCM Ventures, Sierra Ventures and The Venture Reality Fund.

"We're focused on the intersection between today's 250 million eSports viewers and the emerging VR market," said Mitch Liu, Founder and CEO of SLIVER.tv.

A whole new world

"We recognised early on that the existing eSports viewing approach from the player's point-of-view is not necessarily the best perspective for the audience. Our vision is to transform the eSports spectator experience forever."

SLIVER.tv's platform uses virtual camera arrays in games to record the action in a VR-compatible format, before compiling everything into a viewable format less than 24 hours after the game's completion.
