Outplay Entertainment becomes the UK's largest independent mobile studio, employing over 150

Dundee-based mobile games studio Outplay Entertainment has grown to more than 150 employees strong.

This caps off a year of significant growth for the firm, in which it has achieved the ambition with which it was set up in 2011 and officially become the UK's largest independent mobile games studio.

In addition to this, Outplay is also celebrating a milestone of 50 million downloads across its portfolio.

Realising ambition

Outplay was founded in Dundee by brothers Richard and Douglas Hare, who had returned to the UK after co-founding console developers The Collective (now defunct) and Foundation 9 Entertainment in the US.

The studio now finds itself nominated for three TIGA awards in the Amazon Appstore Game, Puzzle Game, and Independent Studio (Large) categories.

The firm has also been shortlisted for Growth Champion of the Year at the 2016 Growth Investor Awards.

"When Richard and I founded Outplay Entertainment in 2010, we set out to create the best possible games, build an amazing team and a world-class company," said CEO Douglas Hare.

"Our investment in our people and culture has been fundamental to the success of the company and enabled us to nurture local talent and create jobs here in Scotland.

"We’re extremely proud to grow from strength to strength and become the largest independent mobile gaming studio in the UK. We’ll continue to drive growth with the same passion and focus on quality content, through the creation of original IP, that we always have."
