GSN Games launches real-money arcade platform Sparcade

GSN Games has launched its competitive real-money arcade platform Sparcade.

The game allows players to compete against each other on classic games and bet real money on the outcome.

Four games have already been remade in a competitive format: Pac-Man, Scrabble, Tetris, and Wheel of Fortune are currently available.

Players can also play for fun and Tokens before they enter real-money matches. Players will also be matched against others of a similar skill level to make sure there's a level playing field.

Building skills

"There are several factors that make now a perfect time for us to introduce Sparcade: casual games have become a permanent fixture in our everyday lives, the energy and enthusiasm around eSports has never been higher, and multiplayer, competitive gaming on mobile is beginning to take shape," said Greg Canessa, senior vice president at GSN Games and Sparcade's general manager.

"We know players will enjoy playing competitively for free or for real money in some of the biggest and most popular game franchises of all time, and we can't wait for them to experience the rich social layer, community features and additional games that we have in the works."

Canessa spoke to PocketGamer.biz in June 2016, saying that the new platform will be useful for developers because "puzzle games and endless runners are low ARPDAU, but by adding a competitive element, we can unlock alternative monetisation methods."
