Turkish developer Peak Games has filed a copyright infringement lawsuit against Hasbro and Backflip Studios for allegedly cloning one of its flagship games Toy Blast.
Hasbro and Backflip released My Little Pony: Puzzle Party on October 13th. The game apparently contains stages and design decisions identical to Toy Blast.
The lawsuit claims that the clone is in fact simply a re-skin of the original game, even down to having an identical tutorial with the exact same steps to follow.
Protecting creativity
"When the game was released last week, it was immediately obvious to all of us that this was just a reskin of Toy Blast," said Peak Game's lawyer Jennifer Kelly, a partner at law firm Fenwick & West.
"Peak believes it is obligated to protect its teams’ creativity and hard work, and to discourage others from taking the shortcut of cloning a leading game in the genre.
"Under this circumstance, we felt it necessary to take the step of filing this action, which Peak has never done before, and did not do lightly."
