Vivendi increases stake in Ubisoft to 24%

Vivendi has increased its stake in Ubisoft to 24% of its shares.

Vivendi now owns 24.059% of Ubisoft's share capital. It also now has 21.296% of the voting rights of Ubisoft.

Vivendi already owned 20% of Ubisoft shares as of September 2016. Ubisoft has been shoring up its defences in case of a Vivendi takeover, having most recently bought back 3.2% of its shares.

Fighting the good fight

The Guillemot family itself currently owns 12.5% of shares in Ubisoft after it bought an extra 3.5% in September 2016.

Ubisoft has been preparing for a hostile takeover situation since Vivendi completed its takeover of developer Gameloft.

CEO Yves Guillemot has been particularly vocal against the potential takeover. He has previously stated that "we won't relax until they sell their shares".
