EA adds ship-based battles to Star Wars: Galaxy of Heroes to boost already huge retention rates

EA has updated its consistently successful Star Wars: Galaxy of Heroes to include ship-based combat to boost retention and further monetise its users.

The new ships will allow players to take part in a new kind of combat for when they have finished with the ground battle. They will have to create fleets and assign heroes to crew the ships.

A new form of PvP battles have also been added to let players fight one another with their ships. Winning these will give players the chance to unlock rare items and Ship Blueprints.

Keep 'em hooked

Star Wars: Galaxy of Heroes will also have characters from the upcoming Rogue One film added as a tie-in event. Players can unlock these characters by collecting shards earned through special tournaments.

It's clear that with this update, EA is catering to its more dedicated players. The game is reported to have an average play session of 2.5 hours a day.

It has also been a strong performer for EA overall. The publisher has identified the game in recent financial reports as one of its best-performers.
