Dundee-based mobile developer Outplay Entertainment has acquired Derby studio Eight Pixels Square for an undisclosed sum.

The acquisition has been made to bolster Outplay's midcore and VR capabilities and takes the developer's total headcount to over 190.

Eight Pixels Square is known for its midcore titles such as All Guns Blazing, Cartel Kings, and RAID HQ. It had raised $3 million in funding as of November 2015.

Another exciting step forward

"The acquisition of Eight Pixels Square is another exciting step forward for the business, as we not only solidify capabilities in mid-core and VR, but also get to work with long-time industry peers," said Douglas Hare, Co-Founder and CEO of Outplay Entertainment.

"Their exceptional talent, expertise and obsessive focus on quality is a fantastic addition to the team and we believe that this move will make us stronger than ever."

Outplay became the largest independent mobile developer in the UK in October 2016 when its headcount surpassed 150.

It also touted 50 million downloads across its portfolio, which has now increased to 55 million.
