Android Wear 2.0 set to launch in early February

Developer email warns them to get updated

Android Wear 2.0 set to launch in early February

Google is alerting Android developers that its Android Wear 2.0 OS will be made available in early February.

The developers received emails from Google explaining that they should optimise their current apps for the new OS. It did not specify the exact date that the update would be made available.

The update will bring with it a standalone Play Store on Android Wear watches to download watch-specific apps. It will also introduce further customisation, messaging and fitness apps.

Rumours and Pokemon

It is also rumoured that the launch of Android Wear 2.0 might coincide with the release of two new Google-made smartwatches. The devices would mark a first for Google in the space, which released its own line of Pixel smartphones last year.

Smartwatches have not typically been useful for mobile gaming. Even the Pokemon GO smartwatch app requires users play the game on their phone simultaneously if they want to catch Pokemon.
