Little-known developer Vasco Games surpasses one billion downloads on mobile since 2013

Netherlands-based mobile game developer Vasco Games has surpassed one billion downloads across its entire catalogue of games.

Vasco Games takes a portfolio approach to its games, creating small titles rapidly. It started making mobile games in 2013 and by the end of the year achieved almost 62 million downloads from 130 releases.

According to App Annie, it has released 2,488 games since it opened its doors, including those that were subsequently canned.

Its most popular game, San Andreas: Real Gangsters 3D, has garnered over 21 million downloads.

Soul and dedication

"I want to thank everybody that put their soul and dedication into this extraordinary milestone," wrote CEO Vasco Rouw in a LinkedIn post.

"One billion downloads is only reachable with a team that works together on a high level. My deep respect for our team."

Vasco Games started life as an eight-person team and has since grown to over 100 employees. It may not be the most well-known studio out there, but it's clearly doing something right.
