Pokemon GO and Clash Royale snag Best Mobile Game and Audience eSports Award at the 2017 BAFTAs

Pokemon GO and Clash Royale have snagged Best Mobile Game and the Audience eSports Award respectively at the 2017 BAFTAs.

Pokemon GO faced off against The Banner Saga 2, Dawn of Titans, Deus Ex Go, Pokemon Sun/Moon and Reigns for the award. It is the first free-to-play game to win the award since it was introduced in 2013.

Clash Royale won over console and PC eSport behemoths Overwatch, Street Fighter V, League of Legends, Dota 2 and Counter-Strike: Global Offensive. The award was voted for by the community and not by official BAFTA judges.

Winners and more winners

Niantic Labs' game had also been nominated for the Game Innovation and Family awards. It lost out to PC and mobile game That Dragon, Cancer and console multiplayer title Overcooked respectively.

The 2017 BAFTA nominations were announced in March 2017. A total of nine mobile games were nominated across a number of categories.

This is not the only award Pokemon GO has won this year. It also picked up the Grand Jury Prize at the IMGAs and Best Mobile/Handheld Game at the GDC Awards.
