Casino firm Scientific Games acquires social bingo developer Spicerack

Casino equipment maker Scientific Games Corporation has acquired mobile social casino developer Spicerack for an undisclosed sum.

Spicerack is best known for Bingo Showdown, which accounts for the majority of the developer's revenues and was a top five social bingo game in 2016.

It's not known whether Spicerack will continue to operate as its own entity following the deal.

Immediately accretive

"We are excited by the addition of Spicerack's talented team and complementary nature of their successful bingo game offering to our expanding portfolio of rapidly growing social casino apps," said Barry Cottle, Chief Executive of Scientific Games.

"The acquisition will be immediately accretive and provide additional momentum in the mobile gaming space, as we look to exceed players' expectations of exciting and engaging gaming entertainment experiences."

Social casino can be especially lucrative for mobile developers, with some developers being acquired for enormous sums. Playtika, for example, was acquired for $4.4 billion in July 2016 by a Chinese consortium.
