Ex-Rovio and Digital Chocolate staff score pre-seed funding round for new Finnish mobile studio Polka Dot

A team off former Remedy, Digital Chocolate and Rovio employees have secured pre-seed funding for their new Helsinki-based mobile studio Polka Dot.

The developer aims to focus on making fashion games targeted at women. Its ambition is to become the leader in the fashion games category and become a go-to-brand for fashion-conscious gamers.

Its first title is currently in development and set for release in January 2018.

Eye for fashion

Investors in the new studio include Gorilla Ventures, Nuard Ventures, Oak Ventures, and select angel investors.

Angel investor Mika Marjalaakso has been named company Chairman.

Local studio Futurefly, which focuses on social AR and messaging through apps such as Rawr, has also joined the board and will also act as an advisor for the company.

The Polka Dot team

“We see a fantastic opportunity in the mobile fashion games market,” said Polka Dot CEO Olesja Marjalaakso, who has previously worked as CEO at Appstar.

“Yes, there are fashion games out there, however our vision is to capture the market with a fresh feel, both visually and design-wise. Our studio will focus purely on fashion games and build a portfolio of games that each bring something new to the audience.

“We want to create experiences where players can explore the fashion world and test different fashion trends in a positive and fun way.”
