Nintendo's latest Switch game Mario Kart 8 Deluxe has become the fastest-selling game of the franchise with 459,000 units sold in the US on launch day.
The console giant stated that this is combined sales of its digital and boxed copies. It represents a 45% attachment rate for the US, and around a 16% attachment rate worldwide. Global sales figures for the game were not shared.
It is also said to have achieved the most "perfect" review scores of any Mario Kart game released. It currently holds a Metacritic score of 93, on par with the previous top-rated game Mario Kart: Super Circuit on Game Boy Advance.
Halo effect
Mario Kart 8 Deluxe topped the sales charts in the UK for the week ending April 29th. Nintendo's flagship Switch title The Legend of Zelda: Breath of the Wild also saw a boost in sales, jumping up to fifth on the charts compared to 10th the week before.
The Nintendo Switch has had an impressive debut, selling 2.74 million units worldwide since it launched in March 2017. Breath of the Wild has also managed to sell 2.76 million units, achieving a 100% attachment rate.
