Words With Friends to offer turn-based play and spectating

Facebook Instant Games for Messenger rolls out worldwide with new features

Facebook is rolloing out its Instant Games platform on Messenger to its 1.2 billion monthly active users.

Previously only available in select countries, the social networking giant is releasing the service worldwide for iOS and Android starting from today.

Instant Games will launch in more regions over the next few weeks.

New features

Facebook is also launching new features previously announced at its F8 conference, which we discussed with the company’s Director of Global Games Partnerships Leo Olebe.

The additions include rich gameplay features, such as turn-based play, and game bots to notify users of what’s happening in-game.

One of the first titles to harness these features is Zynga’s Words With Friends, launching on the platform as a turn-based title. Zynga's hit title will also enable friends in a group chat to spectate a game as it unfolds.

Blackstorm’s Everwing is being updated to take advantage of game bots, while Miniclip is set to launch 8 Ball Pool on Instant Games.

“We’re delighted to welcome the megahit Words With Friends to the 50 games we now have available for Instant Games on Messenger and Facebook,” said Andrea Vaccari, Product Manager on Messenger, in a statement to PocketGamer.biz.

“As one of the first games to include the newly announced rich gameplay features, we are laying the groundwork with Words With Friends and other titles coming soon to give players a wider variety of gameplay options to further enhance their gaming experience.”
