Toys-to-life developer PlayFusion partners with TOMY to launch Lightseekers physical TCG

Cambridge-based mobile game developer PlayFusion has launched a new physical trading card game based on its toys-to-life title Lightseekers.

The Lightseekers TCG has been produced in partnership with toy manufacturer TOMY and features over 350 cards. Players can purchase an Intro Pack to get them started, and further Booster Packs to improve their decks.

The cards also work in combination with the mobile game using AR technology. Scanning one of the cards into the game will unlock new spells, buffs, and followers for the player to use.

Time to duel

PlayFusion is headed up by former Jagex CEO Mark Gerhard and is dedicated to a multimedia platform surrounding the Lightseekers IP. The TCG had been planned to launch with the mobile edition of Lightseekers following a successful Kickstarter campaign.

To help fund development of its various gaming technologies, the developer entered a strategic partnership with Nexon Korea in March 2017. The terms of the deal were not disclosed.

Phygital card-based mobile games are seeing something of a resurgence in recent months. Rhythm game developer Harmonix unveiled its own phygital title, DropMix, in March 2017 in partnership with Hasbro.
