Mario Kart 8 Deluxe became the best-selling game of April 2017 in the UK in just two days

Nintendo's Switch-exclusive Mario Kart 8 Deluxe was the best-selling physical game of April 2017 in the UK despite only being available for two days of the month.

As reported by GamesIndustry.biz, the game was just one of four titles released in April to make the chart. Nintendo's flagship Switch game, The Legend of Zelda: Breath of the Wild, ranked as the sixth best-selling game of April despite launching in March.

Physical game sales overall suffered in April 2017. Combined sales reported by retailers came to 974,000 units, down from 1.67 million in March 2017.

Pole position

Mario Kart 8 Deluxe became the fastest-selling game in the entire franchise in the US when it sold 459,000 units in a day. This figure represents a 45% attachment rate in the US alone.

The Switch itself continues to enjoy success, and is selling out of stock across the world quite regularly. Nintendo stated in its most recent financials that it had sold 2.74 million units since launching in March 2017.
