Extends previous agreement by three years

Atari renews Rollercoaster Tycoon license until 2022 as mobile game clears 6.5 million downloads

Atari's free-to-play mobile game Rollercoaster Tycoon Touch has surpassed 6.5 million downloads in just three months after its launch.

The news comes as Atari extends its license agreement with Rollercoaster Tycoon creator Chris Sawyer to 2022 to continue developing games under the brand.

Rollercoaster Tycoon has been an Atari staple since the late '90s, primarily on PC. It is currently seeing success on mobile from both Rollercoaster Tycoon Touch and premium app Rollercoaster Tycoon Classic.

Build it higher

"We are excited to extend our long-term partnership with Chris Sawyer," said said Atari CEO Fred Chesnais.

"RollerCoaster Tycoon has been a cornerstone of Atari's portfolio of games across multiple platforms and moving forward there will be more fun, engaging and enduring experiences to be added to the franchise."

Outside of the renewed interest in its theme park series, Atari hasn't been a particularly big force on mobile of late. It is currently developing a Clash Royale-esque MOBA called Goon Squad which could well boost its profile in the future.
