Will this one survive the soft-launch?

King takes another stab at midcore RPGs with soft-launched Legend of Solgard

King appears to be taking another swing at the midcore audience with its recently soft-launched RPG Legend of Solgard.

The game was first launched on June 16th 2017 and is currently available in Indonesia, Malaysia, and Sweden on Android. It has already received one update.

Legend of Solgard appears to combine elements of match-3 puzzle games and turn-based RPGS in a colourful cartoon fantasy world. Players can acquire and train units and heroes for battle, and form guilds with friends to battle others online.

Tell the tale

King has attempted midcore games several times before. It has previously soft-launched Z2's turn-based strategy game Rise of Tyrants, and its own action RPG Hero, both of which were canned in 2016.

Alongside its new fantasy RPG, King is also developing a midcore shooter based on the Call of Duty franchise. The game is currently only in early prototyping phases.

The developer is still working on more traditional casual games, however. A sequel to Farm Heroes, Farm Adventure, is currently in soft launch, and a new Candy Crush Saga entry appeared in May 2017 before being swiftly pulled from stores.
