Pokemon GO fans are suing Niantic for disastrous Pokemon GO Fest in Chicago

Fans want their travel expenses refunded - which shouldn't hurt Niantic's bank account too much

Pokemon GO fans are suing Niantic for disastrous Pokemon GO Fest in Chicago

Some annoyed Pokemon GO Fest attendees have decided to sue Niantic due to technical issues faced during the day causing the event to not live up to "what was promised".

As Polygon reports, a class-action lawsuit of between 20 and 30 people is being prepared by attendees who travelled great distances to attend the event. This includes some attendees who travelled from Japan to attend.

Niantic is already offering full refunds on tickets, along with $100 worth of in-game PokeCoins, and a free Legendary Pokemon that was released at the event. The attendees are asking for further refunds for their travel expenses.

Lawsuit, I choose you!

Players also continued to enjoy the game after the event in smaller groups, and were still able to catch the Legendary Pokemon. Niantic CEO John Hanke said that over 7.7 million Pokemon were caught in the surrounding area once the event had officially closed.

Niantic won't be hugely hurt if it needs to pay up, of course. Sensor Tower noted that July 23rd, the day after the event, was Pokemon GO's top grossing day of all time, generating an estimated $5.8 million in revenues in a single day.

As of July 27th 2017, it was the top grossing iPhone game in 23 countries including the US, UK, Canada, France, and Germany. In Japan, the country which spends the highest amount on Pokemon GO, it is currently the fourth-highest grossing app.
