Hibernum Creations lays off majority of staff amid "transitional period"

Montreal-based mobile game developer Hibernum Creations has let go of the majority of its staff amid a "transitional period" for the company.

As reported by GamesIndustry.biz, it had been previously claimed that upwards of 100 members of staff had been laid off. The studio had a headcount of 155 back in 2014, and planned to grow this by another 150 by 2016.

Hibernum is known for its licensed mobile games including Beauty and the Beast: Perfect Match, Magic: The Gathering – Puzzle Quest and Dice With Ellen.

Transitional phase

"The company is currently going through a transitional period where it has begun to sell its assets to various potential partners," said a representative for the developer.

"Our hearts go out to all our dedicated employees and their families during this transitional phase. Key personnel that remain will make all efforts to keep as many projects alive and as many personnel employed as we find permanent homes for our existing projects."

It is unclear what this means for its casual games division QuickByte Games. The division's latest game, Laps – Fuse, racked up over one million downloads in its first week of launch earlier in August 2017.
