Fish Tycoon developer Gogii Games opens Halifax studio

Plans to recruit as many as 20 staff

Fish Tycoon developer Gogii Games opens Halifax studio

Fish Tycoonseries developer Gogii Games has opened a new studio in Halifax, Canada.

The move was announced earlier in the year and the company has now recruited 10 staff to work at the office in downtown Halifax, according to The Chronicle Herald.

One of the reasons the developer has expanded in the area is due to Nova Scotia’s generous tax credits – similar incentives of which other provinces in Canada are well known for.

The studio is headed up by Punk Science Studios President Darryl Wright.

Promising games hub

Gogii aims to employ more than 20 staff at the new office over the next year. The studio will has been formed to develop new games and support its existing Moncton, New Brunswick-based team.

“In the past 10 years we have watched a strong game development community form in the Halifax area, and with our new expansion we knew it was the right place for us to grow,” said Gogii Games President George Donovan.

“Looking at the talent pool already available in the region, the 38,000+ undergraduate and graduate students enrolled in Nova Scotia’s 10 universities and 13 community college campuses, and the commitment from the local and regional governments to support video game development, Halifax was an easy choice to expand Gogii’s operations.”

Gogii Games has worked on games such as the Fish Tycoon franchise, which has amassed more than 100 million downloads.
