Goodgame Empire surpasses $800 million lifetime revenues

Developer aims to expand the IP with Empire: Millennium Wars

Goodgame Empire surpasses $800 million lifetime revenues

Hamburg-based Goodgame Studios’ flagship browser and mobile strategy game Goodgame Empire: Four Kingdoms has surpassed more than $800 million in lifetime revenues.

The company claimed the milestone made it Germany’s “most successful game of all time” as it nears the $1 billion mark.

“We are extremely proud and we thank all players who made that happen. The financial success gave us the freedom to extend Goodgame Empire to one of the most complex strategy games ever.”, said Goodgame Head of Studio Nina Mueller.

“We are especially proud of all the players that are with us for many years. With over 250 content updates since the start in 2011 we obviously kept the fun factor high.”

Flash to HTML5

When it comes to the browser, Goodgame said it is currently in the process of transitioning its titles from Flash to HTML5.

The web standard is currently experiencing somewhat of a resurgence, in part thanks to the demise of Flash and new platforms like Facebook Instant Games taking advantage of it.

Goodgame said it expected the switch to be completed by mid-2018.

The studio is currently at work on developing a brand new game based on the popular IP called Empire: Millennium Wars, in which players compete to dominate the mining industry of Mars.

News of the $800 million landmark comes after Goodgame laid off more than 600 staff as part of a restructuring strategy at the company to return itself to profitability.
