Apple has eyes on new mobile ad network

Apple is eyeing up a return to the mobile advertising business, according to a report.

The Wall Street Journal cites sources claiming the company has spoken with the likes of Snapchat, Pinterest and others about becoming part of its ad network.

Search ads business

Apple would then place ads in these apps that show up based on keyword searches. Apple would then share revenue on the proceeds with these app companies.

The new ad network would work similar to Apple’s current Search Ads business, which promotes apps based on keywords.

That business was said to have generated nearly $1 billion in revenue last year.

It was reported however that the launch of such a business is not a certainty.

Facebook and Google currently dominate the mobile advertising sector, though a significant move by Apple could upset that duopoly.
