Monopoly Towns goes straight to jail as Backflip cans soft-launched title

Mobile games developer Backflip Studios has canned its soft-launched title Monopoly Towns.

The US-based developer issued a statement on its website to inform players that the Monopoly tie-in would be taken off the App Store on July 6th, with in-app purchases also switched off.

Those who have the game installed will still be able to play on but support will cease as of September 3rd 2018.

Stuck in jail

Monopoly Towns initially entered soft-launch on August 8th 2016 on Android and iOS. It then subsequently released in Hungary, Netherlands, Philippines, Singapore and South Africa.

Gameplay blended the town-building aspect of monopoly while removing the board game aspect of it, with cash generated through various enterprises and not a die in sight.

The title received 10 updates between its launch and August 10th 2017. Some of these included social aspects that allowed players to send friends resources to build up their towns.
