Disney to shut down Star Wars: Rivals mobile game

Disney has decided to shut down its soft-launched game Star Wars: Rivals before launch.

In-app purchases in the title have been disabled as of September 11th and the game will officially close on October 11th, after which it will no longer be available for download.

Disney said no refunds or credits will be offered to players for any items purchased.

End of saga

Star Wars: Rivals was soft-launched on June 15th 2017 and over the last 15 months has been extended to various countries on iOS and Android.

Those countries were Australia, New Zealand, Chile, Peru, Argentina, Brazil, Canada, Mexico, Malaysia and the Philippines.

It underwent eight updates during that time which mainly revolved around adding new characters and making them more accessible to unlock.

Star Wars appears to be a difficult IP to make a success of on mobile. While Star Wars: Galaxy of Heroes has been hugely lucrative for EA, it's not always been the case for others.
