Learn the Global Trends at Pocket Gamer Connects Helsinki Digital

Just over two weeks remain until Pocket Gamer Connects Helsinki Digital, which takes place between September 14th and 18th.

Pocket Gamer Connects Helsinki Digital will continue our string of successful digital events. Yet again, we will provide excellent panels, interesting talks, and fringe events, and we have improved upon the meeting system since our last go around.

The number of tracks has increased for our Helsinki event. We have 15 insightful tracks for attendees to take in – subjects include growth, esports, live ops, global trends, Blockchain and big screen gaming.
Every day we will look at each of the 15 tracks in turn. Today is Global Trends, a look at the global market for the mobile games industry.

Monday September 14th

9:00 - The track will kick off with a superstar session by App Annie senior market insights manager Lexi Sydow. Her talk will centre on how to uncover market opportunities and expand your product portfolio by understanding gamer preferences.

9:30 - Up next, discover the convergence between gaming and lifestyle with Ubisoft director of international events Leon Winkler.

10:00 - Time to join Miniclip's senior commercial associate Jayvian Hong, as she delivers a game-changing lesson – how to empower others within the games industry.

10:30 - Now it is time for a fireside chat between Mixi director of corporate planning, strategy and digital entertainment Langer Lee and Steel Media's own Sophia Aubrey Drake. The pair will cover the topic of games as interactive tools for families.

11:00 - Next, we have our first panel of the track, as four industry experts cover the growing video game industry in Africa. Taking to the stage is Leti Arts CEO and co-founder Eyram Tawia, LudiqueWorks CEO and co-founder Douglas Ogeto and Kiro'o Games CEO and founder Olivier Madiba. They will be joined by Paradise Game CEO and founder Sidick Bakayoko.

11:50 - Time for our second panel, this time there will be a focus on the second wave of games and coming back from COVID-19. Four experts will offer their insight, including DICE head of design Fawzi Mesmar and Bitkraft Esports Ventures founding partner Malte Barth. The pair are joined by Deconstructor of Fun founder Michail Katkoff and Omdia games industry analyst Louise Shorthouse.

15:00 - The afternoon sessions will begin with a fireside chat between Super Evil Megacorp CEO Kristian Segerstrale and PocketGamer.biz editor Ric Cowley. The pair will discuss: how the developer is learning from Vainglory to make its next game, Catalyst Black, even better.

15:30 - Time for another panel, five lawyers will cover content law. Taking to the stage is NCSOFT associate general counsel Yan Perng and DLA Piper Partner; Co-chair, Startups, Emerging Companies & Technology Ryan Black. They will be joined by Google cloud partner contracts manager Angelo Alcid, Odin Law and Media founding attorney Brandon Huffman and Frankfurt, Kurnit, Klein & Selz associate Matt Dobill.

16:20 - We have yet another fireside chat, this time with Sony Pictures Entertainment executive director of consumer products and interactive games David Kim and Steel Media COO Dave Bradley. The topic that they will cover is licensing IPs for video games.

16:50 - Our penultimate session will be held by Niantic network operations manager Foad Shahbazi, as he talks about what 5G means for gaming.

17:20 - The track will close with another panel, focused on games as a cultural force and the role of games in Advocacy. The first of our experts is Recontact Games co-founder and producer Simay Dinc. She will be joined by Playtra game director and founder Dan Bernardo, Steel Media's Big Indie Pitch manager Sophia Aubrey Drake and Big Karma founder Pascal Clarysse.
