Virtual Worlds to be ported to the iPhone

Icarus Studios brings its development platform to Apple's handset

Virtual Worlds to be ported to the iPhone
The Austin Game Developer Conference is the chosen venue for Icarus Studios to demonstrate the iPhone port of its Virtual Worlds development platform.

Offering turnkey solutions for virtual worlds, MMOs and large scale game developments, Icarus Studios will apparently show off the iPhone's first 360 degree virtual environment, viewed through the incorporation of accelerometer controls.

"We are committed to porting our platform to established and emerging devices. The iPhone offers a tremendous opportunity to extend Virtual Worlds and MMOGs to mobile devices in a visually rich and intuitive device," said James Hettinger, Chief Executive Officer at Icarus Studios.

The team specialises in creating virtual worlds for the games industry, corporate sector and government, with an emphasis on sustaining user- generated content, revenue models, in-game social activity and dynamic gaming systems - all functions that could really open up the inherent connectivity of the iPhone in an online title.

The iPhone client is scheduled for availability in Q1 2009, so check back with PocketGamer.biz to see how things progress.

Yes. Spanner's his real name. And, yes, he's heard that joke before.
