Speaker Spotlight: Bon Games CEO Ilkka Immonen on how to grow as a developer in Finland

Immonen has been an entrepreneur in games for the last 15 years.

He first started with an outsourcing company that had clients like Supercell, Sulake Labs and Remedy. He has collaborated with several IPs including the actor Wesley Snipes.

After that he worked for PC games developer Fragment Production Ltd. Immonen has also worked for over 20 different games for iOS, Android, PC and Nintendo platforms and worked with mobile games since 2008.

PocketGamer.Biz: What does your role at the company entail?

Ilkka Immonen: I am trying to support and help the team in any and all the ways I can.

My role in our team is to look after our funding situation, business development, and anything else that is not directly game development related.

What do you think have been the most exciting developments in gaming since the last Pocket Gamer Connects Helsinki?

Always good to see new games that hit the radar hard and I think Small Giant Games has done really well, so that is one thing.

For us it has been super exciting because we launched our first game in November 2017 and have been updating it ever since.

Releasing your game and growing your game is definitely beyond exciting!

What are your thoughts on the way the industry has grown in the last 12 months?

While the competition is tough on some areas I believe that there are some open slots now for new studios to break in now.

Smaller new studios have a chance when they have identified a specific target and are going to execute with super sharp focus.

What do you think the next 12 months in mobile gaming are going to look like?

Very exciting! There is competition on so many levels and it will be interesting to see what kind of new companies break through and with what kind of focus.

I am sure that companies that have been concentrating on their game, execution and quality will always stand out.

Hopefully we see our path going towards the top of the mobile tycoon domain.

Which part of Pocket Gamer Connects Helsinki are you most looking forward to and why?

Meeting new people is always the best!

Harry used to be really good at Snake on the Nokia 5110. Apparently though, digital snake wrangling isn't a proper job, so now he writes words about games instead.
