Rovio working on Angry Birds animated series

Catapulting onto the small screen

Rovio working on Angry Birds animated series
Watch out Family Guy, Futurama, and The Cleveland Show – the animated adventures of Angry Birds will soon be launching on a television network near you.

After catapulting through the 42 million downloads barrier last month, Rovio’s aggravated avian are preparing to spread their wings further still by starring in a cartoon series for TV or the Web.

New platform

That’s according to the developer’s CEO Mikael Hed, who in speaking to UK industry site C21 media confirmed it’d been shopping around the idea of a broadcast spin-off to the physics-based game since August.

"It was a completely new area for us; we had to get our bearings there, and a sense of how the whole market was," Hed told C21.

"That was the first part of the exercise, and now that we've done that, the next part is to move into production, and that's where we are right now.”

The transition to the medium of television is only the latest step in the polygamous Angry Birds’s cunning plan to take over the world, the feathered flyers having set up nest of late on Android, Mobile Streams’s Appitalism, Intel’s AppUp platform, and the Mac App Store.

Toying with ideas

In addition to hitting the airwaves in a nearby future, the Angry Birds juggernaut has already rolled into the lucrative toytown via a range of plushies.

And going full circle, Mattel has even produced a boardgame based on the egg-recovering travails - complete with spring-loaded slingshot - which featured in a recent edition of the BBC Click television programme.

Hmmmm, maybe the Beeb has been in talks...?? Ahhh, we’ll find out soon enough.
