CES 2011: Motorola reveals Honeycomb powered tablet Xoom

CES 2011: Motorola reveals Honeycomb powered tablet Xoom
No-one could accuse Motorola of lacking in confidence when it comes to the launch of its debut tablet, the Honeycomb powered Xoom.

Though the device only received its official unveiling at CES 2011, Motorola began building hype for its tablet back in December, launching a video that pitched it as a tablet that put both iPad and Galaxy Tab in the shade.

Spec savvy

Now Xoom is out in the open, it's clear such confidence has translated through to the tablet's specs.

Sporting a 10.1 inch widescreen HD display, as well as full 1080p HD support and HDMI out, Xoom is to be sold as a luxury device rather than a strict business tool.

The addition of two cameras – one 5MP on the rear, and one 2MP forward facing – also suggests Motorola is happy to out-spec its rivals in almost every category.

Xoom xoom

"Light, powerful and fundamentally different than anything else on the market, Motorola Xoom leverages the very best technology available today to redefine what a tablet experience can be," said Motorola Mobility CMO Bill Ogle.

"The first device to feature software designed specifically for tablets, Motorola Xoom goes everywhere you do and delivers everything you need."

Xoom will also come with a Nvidia Tegra 2 dual-core 1GHz processor, wi-fi and 3G connectivity, built in gyroscope, barometer, e-compass and accelerometer.

Though an exact date it currently up in the air, its release is expected in Q1 2011.
