New revenue stream with Amazon Mobile Associates API

Amazon has announced a new way for developers to monetise their apps, lifting the lid the Amazon Mobile Associates API scheme.

Previously, developers wishing to monetise their apps on the Amazon Marketplace only had three ways of doing so: by using mobile ads in their titles, or by adopting either the premium or freemium monetisation model.

The new Mobile Associates API method allows developers to sell real world products from Amazon, through their game - essentially making them a middle man for the US retail giant.

All purchases will happen in-app, with customers wishing to buy an item being shown a dialogue box revealing the details and cost of their product, before being allowed to complete the purchase using Amazon’s 1-Click purchasing system.

If a customer does make a purchase via a game or app, developers will earn up to 6 percent of the total purchase cost, with the income being added to their app distribution earnings.

If you're interested in utilising the Mobile Associates API, you can get started right here.

What do you call someone who has an unhealthy obsession with video games and Sean Bean? That'd be a 'Chris Kerr'. Chris is one of those deluded souls who actually believes that one day Sean Bean will survive a movie. Poor guy.
